Backstory
Raeganns real name is Raerin and she is an angel. However she was never able to live up to the high standards expected from an angel. She got bullied a lot and was very quiet and insecure.
One day she was done and could not take it anymore, she decided to leave Heaven. Once on Earth she cut off her wings due to people asking her for blessings a lot. After a while of wandering, she met Niamh, who took Raerin in. They ended up becoming best friends and Niamh is the only one outside her crew that Raegann trusts and cares about.
After living with Niamh for a while, she discovered pirates and realised they didn't care if someone was perfect or not, contrary to angels. The pirates, however, were very superstitious and thus would not let women on board as they believed they would bring misfortune. Raerin decided to disguise herself as a boy and changed her name to Raeden. She cut her hair and made it brown, but could not hide all of her angel marks.
Eventually she got found out, but she had fallen in live with the pirate life and decided to gather her own crew. And so she did.
She became captain of her own ship and crew. She only lets people with any kind of dissability on her crew and helps them live and even thrive with it. She made a reputation for herself and is now the more feared pirate of Aegredia. She changed her name to Raegann and that is what she is known by now. She never speaks of her past as an angel and not even her crew knows about this.
When she is in Aegredia, she often gets a visit from Sylren, who she finds rather annoying.
"And I just kept falling..."
The distance between Heaven and Earth is greater than you think, one could fall for days and still not be close to the surface of the Earth.
Quite horrifying if you think about it really. Especially since down is the only way to leave. Legend has it that if an angel travels off the edge of Heaven, they'll fall, and fall they will. Days and days on end. I always thought this was a myth, a story to scare young angels to obey and to stay away from the edge.
But only once youve fallen youll find they weren't lies. Only one you're falling you'll realise it all were true.
I thought it'd be the death of me, I had hoped so. Turns out angels are quite sturdy, or what you on earth call, 'immortal'.
However that isn't even the scariest part, falling. It was actually quite calming. Nothing but clouds for miles and miles, the fresh wind that gently plays with your hair and the folds in your clothing. If you spread your arms and close your eyes, it almost feels like youre floating. Its peaceful, if you manage to forget the reason behind the fall that is.
No, falling isn't the scariest part, it's landing. Where will I land? Will it be in sea, or on land maybe? What kind of land? Will i land softly in the moss of a forest, or maybe my head will split open on a sharp rock? Will I land near humanity or will i not see a soul for years to come?
How will I land? Will iIland delicately like expected of an angel? Or will i just crash down like a comet meant to destruct? Will my landing make an impact and leave a mark on the ground, to be remembered for years and years to come? Or will it be as subtle at a raindrop?
Will I survive the landing?
I hope not.
But I did.
I survived, and now what?
People started to worship me, ask me for blessings, to take them to Heaven when they died, for I am an angel. And they knew. They thought I was a gift sent from the Heavens, that Dad had finally listened to their prayers and sent help.
Little did they know it was the exact opposite. Little did they know how horrible this place they worshipped really was. I could tell them. I could easily just tell them and ruin the entirety of Christianity, make it disappear. And they would believe me, of course they would, for iIam an angel, one of the beings they so desperately worshipped.
But I didn't. I didn't tell the truth, for why destroy their hope over a family feud?
People kept asking me for favours, for they knew it was my job, for they knew I am an angel.
These wings. These damned wings and their beauty gave it away. Their gorgeous white feathers with a holy golden glow, they could draw in anyone with no problem.
They had to go. And go they did.
I cut them off.
They left these two huge scars all over my back, it was sore and hurt for decades. It still does. It healed, but angels are not supposed to lose their wings. Let alone cut them off themselves and thus theyll be punished. They're punished by their own body, which will always remind them of what they did, without a fail.
And reminding they did.
I am sure you have heard of fallen angels, I am no such thing, no, I jumped on my own will, a very well thought over decision.
